TEACHING PHILOSOPHY Teaching is a journey that is never-ending. It is a process that improves with time. I believe that teaching is to provide students with the necessary knowledge, and skills to succeed in academic, business and personal areas. My teaching philosophy is based on the belief that education is a solution to many social problems. Education provides the tools to make decisions and to become more critical. Therefore, I am working really hard to improve my skills as a teacher. Teachers have to face that It has been really hard to teach nowadays.
Teachers have to transmit not only the knowledge of heir subjects, but also the world’s knowledge. Most of the time they don ‘t have the task because at the p OF6 the role they should y – S. wp nent page Although there are lo doing What love bec t on and share this not worned about arnlng process. in our society, keep is very gratifying. When see all my students speaking English very well, I really forget all these problems. I am very happy to contribute to a person ‘s better future and Sv. ‘ipe to View next page see that they Will achieve success In life. eally have a particularly strong passion for teaching English. ave been studying English since was ten years old and this language really attracts me. When enter a classroom I leave all my problems outside and Introduce my passion to my students. I try to get all my students involved in the class and I also try to make them more interested in English by bringing to class material that are interesting, challenging and interactive. strongly believe that students learn and retain more information if the material is presented in an environment that is interesting and interactive.
For this reason, I think that using an array of ultimedia including videos, slides, sitcoms and the Internet is an effective way to complement my classes and make them more dynamic, lively and interesting. Another thing that really do to make my students more interested in learning this subject is to show them that it is really Important to speak a universal language. tell them that English is the most widely used language in our planet and it’s very rewarding to understand a person that does not speak our mother language or just to understand What helshe is singing.
I really believe that students can prac mother language or just to understand What he/she is singing. I really believe that students can practice the oral phase and the written phase at school (but, of course, it Will depend on how many students the teacher Will have in the classroom). don ‘t agree when people say that it is impossible to learn English at school and tell them that we really can do that. One positive thing do is to teach them some necessary expressions like: “May I go to the restroom? , “May I drink some water? ‘ “Repeat, please”, “l don ‘t understand” on the first day of class because by doing this they have the first contact with the language. I also ake some pair works so that they can practice the material they have learned that day. do this because it allows them start the process of forming relationships because every class I change the students from group they are already used to. And by doing this they have the opportunity to speak English and meet new friends.
As am a teacher that is really Involved in the process of teaching, do hope I can go beyond my subject I know am a role model for the students, so really want them to learn from my behavior and personalities. I think that as an educator should educate for haracter, especially throu 3 character, especially through teaching respect and responsibility. think that as teachers interact with students, it is vital for them to serve as role models of character by making professional judgments and decisions based on societal and moral virtues.
When think about my teaching style, believe that I am a little authoritative. In the beginning of my career believed that could be flexible to my students, but then noticed that the students were not mature enough to understand it. Nowadays, am the kind of teacher that places limits and controls on the students, ut I am always listening to my students• remarks and checking if they have any question about the topics have taught. If I am going to make a decision or rule something generally explain them the reasons.
If my student is rude to his/her friends, I often give him/her a polite, but firm, reprimand. As mentioned above, am a teacher that is open to considerable verbal Interaction, including critical debates and my students know that they can interrupt me if they have a relevant question or comment. do believe that this environment offers the students the opportunity to learn and practice com o believe that this environment offers the students the opportunity to learn and practice communication skills. always try to be fair to all of my students and understand that they can ‘t be perfect.
Although I am trying to become an effective teacher, I really have lots of things to improve. know have strengths and weakness. I would say that my strengths are dedication, and determination. always dedicate myself and want that they do the same, but sometimes it doesn ‘t happen. I want that my students understand every details and I am always concerned about their learning process. When detect a student that has lots of difficulties, I don ‘t give up on them. I always try to find other teaching methods so that the student who has difficulties Will understand better.
As weakness, would say time management. I am the kind of teacher that wants to do everything. Sometimes have so many nice things prepared to show to a class but there is not enough time for it. I really know that have to organize my time, but have to declare that it is my weakness although I have already started to work on it. have been teaching for six years and I really have Iots ofthngs to learn and improve. an • t say that am a perfect teacher; howeve S really have lots of things to learn and improve.
I can • t say that am a perfect teacher; however, I have been trying to achieve success and become an effective teacher. I believe that an effective teacher makes good use of instructional time and inspires students to want to do well or to know more. Teachers do not become effective from a book or a college course. Teachers learn to be effective by finding out what works and what doesn’t. An efective teacher can positively influence a student as well as colleagues. When observing an effective teacher in action, he teacher looks like he or she loves teaching and all that goes along with the job.
To conclude, teaching means doing my best to understand my students and to instill into them that their opportunities in Ife are limitless. I hope to provide encouragement, determination and direction so that they conquer all the goals they have set for themselves and make sure that these goals are never too high. My greatest hope is that my students Will see me as a fnend, as a person they can come to when their dreams come true or when they don ‘t and as one that really wants to see them succeed in
